Don't Buy! You're Wasting Your Money! It's Identical To The 8th Edition!

Firstly, this is one of the textbooks required for a course of mine and I just received the book and when I opened it, I discovered that the actual text was not only upside-down, meaning I have to turn the book upside-down to read it, but it's also backwards. What I mean by backwards is that in the US, the text goes from the left side of the book/page to the right side of the book/page, here it's the opposite, you have to read it from the right side of the book/page to the left. So I received a defective copy which agitated me. But the primary reason why you shouldn't purchase this book is because I overheard a peer of mine in class mention that the 8th edition of this book (which is sold as new for less than half the price (around $30 for a tangible copy) and used for about $5-also for a tangible copy) is identical. I looked up the chapters here on Amazon, and compared them with my 9th edition textbook and it's the exact same! 14 chapters! Same chapter headings and content! I was fooled. This is more of the same, corporations vomiting the same textbooks with new covers citing the latest edition in an attempt to justify the exorbitant price tag that students have to pay! Thankfully technologies like Kindle and other e-readers are cutting into the profits of these bloodsuckers by making their digital copies less expensive. I feel ripped off. Why the hell would my instructor do this?! Why would he assign this expensive trash when the same garbage is sold for much less?!

Poor Editing of an otherwise good text

This book is fabulous at highlighting US Foreign policy and all that has happened in that arena since the start of the Nation. That being said, this book is FULL of editing mistakes such as When Carter had to address the interference of the Soviet Union in Afghanistan in 1999. 1999? Really? How do you miss that?

It's a good book, thorough in instructions.

This book is all about the one quilt design on the front cover and how to make them. It does have templates to cut out inside the book. There are 9 different blocks the quilt is based on. It takes 6 light to dark solid fabrics of one color to make each diamond block. You can add a blender in place of one of the colors. So you're needing 108 count of layer cake, 10" by 10". Plus you need black and 3 different shades of gray and lastly white.
If you don't plan on using the paper templates provided, you will need 2 Jaybird rulers. The Super Sidekick and the Hex N More rulers. So, doing the math, that's a lot of fabric in my opinion for that one queen sized quilt. Maybe I'm cheap and lazy, dunno. You could just use the middle 6 designs and give that a go. It does give directions on making a matching pillow to go with the Gravity quilt.

Hmmm...

I am 27 and reading this series has been great but this one did not work for me. I am not into cowboys or ranchers or previous in love heroes or heroines and they are older than me. The thought of a 50 year old man being a hero is not sexy to me. He was really sweet but when I was trying to picture him, all I saw was the man on the cover of the book. That is not how the hero looks. The hero has thick, full blonde hair and the man on the cover is old looking to me. I could not get that image out of my head when I was reading. Plus the cover art makes Fin look almost 50 as well. It was just not for me and I hate to say it but this is the one I liked least out of all the books in this series. They are cute together but not my style for a romance couple.

The story line was good. The writer omitted the writer the epilogue. This would have ended the story. Ore effectively for the readers and there were typos.

Truth must be experienced within

The Modern Muse will take you on a journey to follow your passion, to live beyond the ordinary. Giselle inspired me to find my guru within, through whatever connects me to my divine nature.

I liked when Giselle said we should ask ourselves "what is next beyond my wildest imagination" when we're faced with a challenge. And when we think we see evil, realize it's only misalignment.

The Modern Muse says we find our bliss by living life at a very high vibration. "The highest vibration is love, appreciation, and gratitude." When your life isn't harmonious, reconnect with virtues, and ask yourself questions like "what books am I reading, what am I watching on TV, what am I eating."

The Modern Muse gave me many suggestions to raise my vibration, and reconnect with my divine nature. I found it can take little effort to raise my vibration, to rise from the ashes.

I liked best her comment "we all are in love with people who are passionate because passion is magnetizing."

I am looking forward to reading Giselle's next book, because I can see, in her blog, she is evolving "beyond the ordinary."

There's a beautiful amount of inspiration, heartfelt sharing of the author's experiences and the importance of living with inspiration, rather than "goals" which may be good for some, however, living and being inspired does feel a lot better than a goal checklist, at least for me!

I'm glad I read this book, as it brought me a lot of the good things to consider, which made a difference for me. "The Modern Muse: How to Create the Ravishing Life You've Always Wanted" and "a crossing or the drop's history" by Anatoliy Obraztsov I can re-read every month! Great books!

A friend of mine gave me THE MODERN MUSE for my 30th birthday. I was anxious about that milestone and I was spending a lot of time wondering just what might come next for me, both spiritually and career-wise. I found this book helped to remedy a lot of that worry. The author takes the message beyond if you do what you love, you'll always be happy. Here it's about opening yourself to that discovery and guiding you toward a place beyond that goal. I certainly know that I was feeling unsure about what it was that I wanted to be and this book gave me the push to begin that journey.

Modern Slant on Age-old Customs

There are many books on Halloween (including another by Jack Santino), but this book is unique in presenting a look at how very old customs have persisted amid the social turmoil and political unrest of Northern Ireland. Since Santino is an American folklorist, one would expect an outsider's view of Halloween. Instead, having lived in Northern Ireland for an extended period and formed working relationships with folklorists there, Santino offers a view of a cultural phenomenon that is both sympathetic and objective. His insights are worth considering. Perhaps the only drawback to this volume is its lack of historical perspective or comparison with other Celtic cultures. Despite this, the present volume is a welcome addition to the library of anyone interested in Halloween itself or Celtic cultural remains.

i found this book to be very informative. i had Jack Santino for a professor in college and took 3 of his classes, one of which required this book. he is the guy to go to if you want to talk about holidays and ways that people interpret and celebrate them. i thought this book was interesting because i didn't know much about irish (northern or republic) holiday customs and he touched on a lot of them in the class. i would reccoment this book to anyone who wants to learn about irish culture and how they celebrate halloween. even if you're just a fan of halloween itself i think you would find it an interesting read.

Excellent Resource For Roman Military

I've purchased a dozen military novels and resource manuals on both the ancient Roman and Greek militaries and I have to say that this book has been the best one in my library.

If you're a historian buff, school student, reenactor, or just out to learn more about the Roman's armor, weapons, shields, etc... this is THE book for you.

The layout starts by discussing the different evidence found and then jumps into the various periods of the Roman civilization. You get to see the advancement of the weapons, armor, structure as it morphed over centuries. Each point added is backed up by actual evidence found in digs throughout Europe and the Middle East. You get to see the items as they were when they were taken out of the ground in all their glory and learn all the necessary characteristics about them.

I can't begin to explain how great of a reference this is. I had never read the original printing (my copy is the re-print) but it came highly recommended to me as I want to get into Roman reenacting. If asked by anyone else, this would be the book that should be at the top of anyones list.

While I think each individual section could have been longer with more examples... I still think it's one of the best out there. Don't let the pricetag push you away from purchasing it. It should be on the shelf of anyone interested in the Roman civilization.

Solid overview of Roman military equipment

A go-to shelf reference for all things Roman military. Great introduction to the wide and deep body of knowledge that is Roman military equipment. Not a dry scholarly dissertation on artifacts, but a quite approachable book to identify the various kinds of helmets, swords, belts, spears, etc. covering the centuries of the "Roman period."

Miles Gloriosus: military weapons and equipment

This is a very thorough, if somewhat technical account, of Roman military weapons and equipment. The illustrations are clear and detailed. The research it took to produce the information contained in the book must have been exhaustive. I am an amateur and a novice on the subject of Roman martial equipment, but by comparison with the other books I have read on the subject, ROMAN MILITARY EQUIPMENT is the most comprehensive. My only criticism is that I wish the book was a little more user friendly. It is not by any means inaccessible to the layman, however, and any student or enthusiast of Ancient Rome and its military might will find a wealth of useful information here about the equipment used by the legionnaires from the time of the Punic Wars (264 to 146 BC) to the fall of Rome. I recommend ROMAN MILITARY EQUIPMENT to all modern day legionnaires and miles gloriosus wannabes.
