Original Little Mermaid!

My kids all love the disney version of this story; I bought this book because I remembered reading it as a girl and always loved the orginal version; and I wanted my kids to know the real story and the orginal author behind the story. I love this story, my kids loved it to, even though the ending is sad. I think everyone should have this book in their own personal collection. All Hans C. Andersen's books are great reads!

Takes me back to my childhood

As an artist currently working on a serie of Sea creatures, Mermaids are a big part of my everyday life...and I have been going through whatever texts or documents that are related to the subject and could provide me with ideas and inspirations, so off course, I went back to this classical story of my childhood... it had been a big influence in those days, but I had since forgoten the details, and reading it again took me back to my childhood dreams... that was great, and I wish todays children would read more fairy tales...

A delightful tale with nice illustrations

This is one of the many delightful and educational classic tales by Hans Christian Andersen with nice illustrations by Edmund Dulac. The Andersen tales have engrossing and suspenseful plot that enchant children and are filled with entertaining and instructive details, some of which are subtly funny.

The Little Mermaid is one of six children of the Sea King, whose wife has died. None has feet, only a tail. The children are raised by him and his mother. Each of the king’s daughters must remain under water until they attain age 15 when they can swim to the surface, sit on a rock or swim where they like and see the outside world. Since their grandmother does not describe the upper world very well, each of the younger children waits to hear from their older sibling what she has seen. None of the sisters longed to know about the upper world more than the beautiful Little Mermaid because she was the youngest and had to wait the longest. She was fascinated by the hundreds of things that her sisters told her they saw. She heard many tales because each sister marveled at different sights.

Then the Little Mermaid attained age 15 and swam to the surface. She saw a handsome 16-year-old prince on a ship. The ship sank, and she saved to prince, but he was unconscious and did not know who saved him. Andersen tells what happens next.

It's rare that I can pick up a technical Book and want to read it. This one is a diamond in the rough landscape of convoluted books attempting to describe all the facets of the Cloud from a Microsoft perspective. One of the biggest questions in the Industry is Why not Microsoft when VMWare has dominated this space for so long, or even OpenStack? Ron Builds the system with all the completeness that is required for anyone who has ever wanted to design/build/enhance/test/evolve their current understanding from a novice to a real expert in MS Private Cloud. I think I would easily give this book to my 16 year-old and she would build this entire system with the background knowledge and reasons why for any aspect of the MS Private Cloud. I am a big fan of Ron's work and Having met him in person makes this purchase a no-brainier. If you have questions around any aspect of building your own Private Cloud you will find the answers here. Great job Ron and Congratulations!

About the Author
Diana Kuan is a food writer and cooking instructor who has taught Chinese cooking in Beijing and New York. Her writing on food and travel has appeared in The Boston Globe, Gourmet, Food & Wine, and Time Out New York, among other publications. She has appeared on the CBS Early Show and other broadcast media. She is the author of the blog Appetite for China, which has more than 6.5 million page views, and teaches Chinese cooking at Whole Foods and the Institute for Culinary Education (ICE) in New York, where she currently resides.

Well culled selection of Asian / American recipes

This is quite a book.
1. Recipes are reasonable - with fairly short ingredient lists that are available in most grocery stores like Wegmans. A wide variety of appetizers, soups and entrees.
No recipes requiring eel, seaweed or other obscure ingredients. The book is instructive of the techniques that give Chinese takeout it unique texture (crispy) and taste. I like that the recipes in this book prepare a full quart or more of food. It is such a hassle to purchase special ingredients for these types of recipes and have leftover ingredients that get wasted.

2. Contains all the usual favorites from local restaurants. The title says it all for this book - this is a cookbook of takeout recipes. Note well: If you are looking for a "purist" book on Chinese recipes of regional cuisine - look elsewhere. Understand that this book is geared toward Asian / American palate. You can now make them at home and control the quality of the ingredients / sodium. The recipes deliver flavor that is similar to restaurants (Kung Pao, Generals, Sesame Noodles)

3. I love that there are photos of every recipe - the pages are high gloss. There are also explanations of techniques like velveting and for preparing the ingredients.

Update:
Sesame noodle recipe: On point. savory. Be sure to take the time to find the egg noodles - they give the dish a toothsome quality and richness not present with plan spagetti.

Mongolian: dont skip the fish sauce; it lends a note that is impossible to replicate. If you are not used to measuring while cooking you may want to do so. Measure the sauce exactly - otherwise the noodles absorb a large amount of sauce and become very salty and unsightly (very dark and oily looking)

No More Take Out for Me!!!!!

This IS by far the best cookbook I've ever bought myself! At first I was somewhat hesitated, but then, it was just easy. I was tired of ordering takeout and throwing money out the window; plus ordering takeout is not healthy! My favorites recipes that I've actually done are: Kung Pao Chicken, General Tso's and Yang Chow Fried Rice!!!
The best investment of a cookbook ever hands down! If you love Chinese takeout just as much as I do, then this book is for you!!!

Better than takeout

I love the pictures and recipes in this book. I am getting hungry just turning the pages. The sweet chili shrimp recipe is one of my favorites. I like how this book is organized with each chapter containing a different section of a Chinese restaurant menu. The author also tells a story and gives some background information on many of the common ingredients found in Chinese dishes. When I'm craving Chinese takeout, cooking these dishes myself is now an option and a better choice. Many Chinese takeout places nowadays have food that is very greasy or seems to be low in quality. These recipes are high quality, authentic Chinese takeout recipes. I can't wait to try out more recipes.

A few years too late !!!!!!

My apologies to Dan Wilson, but wish you came out with this book years before I discovered the opportunities on eBay UK by coincidence.

If this was published years ago, it would have been an aspiration for sellers to do business in the UK, but now, it is very tough unless you have a unique product with practically no competition. I used to do $10~$15,000 (USD) per month sales in the UK without much effort, but for the past few years eBay has been making changes after changes that did nothing but hurt sellers (much more damage caused to international sellers), basically eBay shot themselves in the foot with their stupidity in poor decision making. I just watched my numbers go down slowly over the past two years to practically zero, till I completely shut down my UK sales and just focused on the U.S. alone.

And for those, who may think I am the cause, my product was and still is popular in the UK, I have more UK customers buying from my U.S. listings than the UK, even though many prices were heavily reduced in the UK. I was never the highest nor the lowest in price, but always got a decent share of the pie in the past. I have 100% positive feedback with thousands of feedback, 4.9 on DSRs and earned the 'Top Seller' award with a 20% eBay discount, but it still did me no good with the changes eBay geniuses have implemented.

Informative, Unbiased Guide To DMT

I've always been afraid of experimenting with psychodelics. About the furthest I've gone into the drug world is marijuana. With that being said I've always been really curious about different psychodelic drugs including DMT. I'd seen the rave reviews of Colin Willis's other works, and when I came across this book, I thought I'd give it a read to indulge my curiousity.
DMT, also known as Demethyltryptamine is a drug used to put you in a subconcious/concious state. Similar to acid, shrooms, and other psycodelic drugs out there. This book begins by explaining what the drug is and all basic facts associated with DMT. It then delves deeper into the history of DMT, talking about it's discovery and historical studies. There's also a good portion of the book dedicated to the science behind the drug; which I found very interesting, because most online sources I'd found regarding DMT don't really mention the science behind it. In fact almost all pieces that I've read on DMT were more about the feelings and effects related to it, rather than the science behind those effects. So this book opened up a lot more information for me.

As with most pieces about DMT this book also covers all of the effects of DMT. But, unlike many sources it doesn't purely focus on the positive attributes, it also explains in detail the negatives of DMT. Because the book was written in a way that was neither promoting nor demeaning DMT, I found that almost everything within it had a scientific base behind it and was written in a way very general way. It wasn't trying to persuade you to use the drug, or not to use it- it was just informing you on using it. I really trusted all of the information in the book because of this and I especially appreciated the fact that they spoke in detail about BOTH the positives and negatives of the drug.

Aside from the effects, the book also discusses the legal risks behind the drug and the dangers involved. There is a lot of critical information included in the book that really can help you grasp whether or not the use of DMT is something worth doing for you. I also really like that it quickly discussed the cost of DMT, which was something I had no previous knowledge of and is hard to find clear answers to online.

Overall, a very informative read. I still haven't decided if I'd ever like to try psycodelics, but I do know that I have a lot more information to make an intelligent decision with after reading this book.

should be used as a teaching tool

I've found this 28 page book to be very informative. It has all the information you could ask for about DMT. I've never tried it or even thought about trying it but this book has explained everything. I know the effects it has on the body and most of the side effects. I'm really happy this book was written. It should be standard in all high school health classes so kids can know sooner. This book was well written. I ugly recommend this book!

Warning...Book contains fear-mongering hogwash.

Interesting that the only good reviews are by people who are admittedly uneducated about DMT. As someone who's well educated in the fields and topics of ethnobotanicals, entheogens, psychedelics, pharmacology, mental health, and more, I give it one star.
I got this pamphlet on Kindle, and I must say that there's some good information in this book, although there's a TON of conjecture, pseudoscience, and frankly insulting hogwash. If you'd like to learn more about DMT please seek out books like 'DMT: The Spirit Molecule' by Dr. Rick Strassman, or books by the brothers McKenna (Terence and Dennis.)
For one example of why this book is 'so' bad in my opinion, I will quote a few sentences that put the scope of how much research the author did before writing this...
"Users who have indiscriminately used DMT have been known to cause harm to others and to themselves. In such cases, there is a likelihood of suicide."
This angers me to an almost irrational extent. Not only have DMT users NOT been "known" to do these things, but it's purely incorrect and fabricated information. The simple fact that "indiscriminate" dosing of DMT would, and will, leave the user incapable of perceiving that they're even still part of this world, but they'd likely be fully physically incapacitated, slumped over and incapable using any of their skeletal muscles to do this supposed "harm" to themselves or others. Suicide would be impossible and out of the question with a sufficient dose, not to mention these so called "indiscriminate" dosages.
Not only is this bad information, but it's fear-mongering. This exact "harm and suicide" line of propaganda is what was used to discredit and destroy the reputation of LSD so many years ago--lies it still hasn't recovered from despite its uses for psychotherapy and much more. Psychedelics can be both medicinal substances and spiritual sacraments, and the way the author has neglected to do any real research and instead decided to take the old fear tactic approach in parts of his pamphlet, simply changing the subject of the myth from LSD to DMT, is offensive and unscientific, and I think that one line is enough to inform anyone about how seriously this author should be taken.

This was free for me to read, and I still feel like it was a waste. I'm so tired of these vapid cash-grab "books," lacking the scientific truth surrounding the issues they claim to address.

I feel so bad for the poor teenagers who's parents are punishing them based on the incorrect and inflammatory false information they're reading in these gross little cookie-cutter publications... UGH.
