Exactly what I hoped for

Dr. MacArthur presents a thorough and reverently-written reference guide to the entire Bible. For each book of the Bible, he includes discussions on the following subjects:

Background,
Key people and doctrines,
Historical and theological themes,
God's character in the book,
Interpretive challenges, and
What is going on in other parts of the world during the time of the book.
(Other subjects are listed in the product description above.)

In addition, an Introduction covers many theological concepts, a history of the Bible, and an insightful article on how to study it. At the end of the book is a useful Topical Index.

I purchased this handbook for my "Historical Books of the Old Testament" class at Channel Islands Bible College & Seminary in Oxnard, California (an accredited, no-tuition Bible college). My husband looked over the book when it arrived, and we immediately ordered one for him.

A reviewer mentioned that Dr. MacArthur is a dispensationalist. I'm not sure about that, but the articles I've read so far do not favor either dispensationalism or covenant theology, but rather give excellent reference information on each book of the Bible. I highly recommend it.

A worthy addition

A worthy addition to one's Bible study library. I have several of MacArthur's Bible study books. I use his NKJV study Bible as my main Bible. It is less thorough in the Old Testament books, but I have several backup commentaries to supplement it.

About the Author
Claudio Mazzola, a native of Milan, received his Laurea from the University of Milan and his Ph.D. from the University of Washington, Seattle. He has taught in major universities and colleges such as The University of Michigan, Vassar College and The College of the Holy Cross. Presently he is Senior Lecturer in Italian at the University of Washington where he teaches Modern and Contemporary Italian Literature and Italian Cinema. He is the author of several textbooks, including Insieme (McGraw-Hill) and Racconti del Novecento, as well as a number of articles, primarily on contemporary Italian cinema.

Romana Capek-Habeković received her PhD from the University of Michigan. She teaches language, literature and culture courses. She is the author of Tommaso Landolfi's Grotesque Images and the co-author of Insieme (McGraw-Hill), a program for intermediate Italian. She is also the co-author of Taped Exercises for Basic and Intermediate Italian (McGraw-Hill). She has published on twentieth-century Italian authors from Massimo Bontempelli to Giose Rimanelli and Antonio Tabucchi. Her articles have appeared in many scholarly publications. Presently, she is teaching and directing the Italian Language Program at the University of Michigan.

Book good for NCLEX prep, Evolve resources great for unit tests!

I received this as a gift. I like it a lot, and I know it will help me prepare for the NCLEX. I was hoping the questions would be sorted by body systems so that it could help me in my current classes, but it is not. There is no quick and easy way to see just the cardiac questions, for example. The rationales are very helpful, and as I get closer to taking the NCLEX, I will be using this book more and more.
Update: There is a code inside the cover for the Evolve site. There are over 6000 questions online. You can organize the questions by body system, critical care, etc. This was a tremendous help on my first test! I would recommend getting the code for the online resources on the Evolve website if you want to sort the questions to help prepare for unit tests.

The second piece of this volume, Verano porteno or Summer in Buenos Aires , was the first of Piazzolla s timeless Las cuatro estaciones (The Four Buenos Aires Seasons) collection and was originally written for a 1965 stage play. The third and final installment in this collection is Tangata. This piece was composed in 1965 and is dedicated to the Argentine choreographer Oscar Araiz. Astor Piazzolla Volume 1 is a fantastic collection which has already received a great deal of public acclaim and praise.

The description includes a couple of errors: Piazzolla's instrument was the bandoneon, a type of button accordian. These piano duos arrangements were written by Pablo Ziegler, who played piano in Piazzolla's "nuevo tango" groups in the 70s and 80s.

I bought this collection for the arrangement of "Libertango". I've performed it often with another pianist and audiences love it. If you've got a sense of rhythm (and can read the notation), you'll enjoy it also.

There are several recordings of this arrangement on Youtube.com.

This is one of my favorite pieces of Piazzolla. This book will enable me to create my own dual pianos on my digital recorder. Now I can play it AND enjoy it. Amazon, as always, has never failed to take excellent care of me.
