About the Authors:
Pei Zheng, an assistant professor of computer science at Arcadia University in Philadelphia, received his Ph.D. from Michigan State in 2003. He has led a number of research and development projects focused on next-generation mobile wireless applications on Microsoft Windows Mobile, Linux, and PalmOS, both within the university and as an industry consultant.
Lionel M. Ni heads the computer science department at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He received his Ph.D. in from Purdue University and has been teaching computer science since 1981. During his career, he has been involved in many projects related to wireless technologies, 2.5G/3G cellular phones, and embedded systems. He is a co-author of Interconnection Networks, also from MKP.
About the Author
Pei Zheng, is a Senior Architect with Carrier Devices, LLC, in Redmond, WA, USA.
Lionel M. Ni earned his PhD degree in electrical and computer engineering from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, in 1980. He is Professor in the Computer Science and Engineering Department at Michigan State University. His research interests include parallel architectures, distributed systems, high-speed networks, and pervasive computing. A fellow of IEEE, Dr. Ni has chaired many professional conferences and received a number of awards
for authoring outstanding papers. His paper (with Chris Glass) ``The Turn Model for Adaptive Routing'' was selected as one of the 41 most significant impact papers in the last 25 years in computer architecture in 1998. He also won the Michigan State University Distinguished Faculty Award in 1994.
Dr. Ni has served as an associate editor for the IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems and IEEE Transactions on Computers.

An excellent and essential in-depth reference of mobile computing

This book is an excellent and essential in-depth reference to both industry and academic audiences. It also was an ambitious undertaking. In 500 pages, the author has attempted to cover the history, current practice and the challenges of next generation mobile computing. Whether you are simply curious about smart phone application development, or are entering the profession yourself, "Smart Phone and Next Generation Mobile Computing" s a good place to start your journey down the road of mobile computing. Every section of this book is very clearly layed out and the index is very easy to use. Pei is well qualified to author this book. His academic and professional backgrounds have given him a solid foundation in the art and practice of mobile computing.

Very good book that delves deep into the technology and uses

This is a very brief review, since I haven't finished reading the book, but I'm finding this to be exactly what I wanted: an intelligently written book that focuses on a very diverse set of uses of Smart Phones, and provides good technical deatil about their capabilities.
